Resale-as-a-service platform Fairlyne, a PhocusWire Hot 25 Travel Startup for 2023, is linking up with Rail Europe.
The partnership follows a recently signed memorandum of understanding that sets up a discussion on what ticket resale can mean for Rail Europe’s customer base, according to a release from Rail Europe.

Gilles de Richemond, CEO and co-founder of Fairlyne, said the company is excited to collaborate with Rail Europe. “Our joint aim is to ensure greater convenience and accessibility for travelers,” he said.
The idea behind the pairing is that Fairlyne’s platform - which is designed to distribute vouchers to ticket resellers - should align with the European train ticket seller’s vision to build a convenient and sustainable rail travel ecosystem. Through the partnership, Fairlyne will enable travelers to resell or purchase tickets during peak travel periods.
Björn Bender, executive chairman and CEO of Rail Europe, said the partnership “underlines” Rail Europe’s goal to improve the mobility ecosystem for its clientele and its willingness to seek creative solutions.
“Every year, hundreds of millions of euros worth of train tickets remain unused,” Bender said. “This partnership with Fairlyne marks a pivotal stride in our mission to establish a more sustainable travel landscape.”
Fairlyne and Rail Europe aren’t the only companies looking at ticketing and resale opportunities.
TravelX, another of PhocusWire’s Hot 25 Travel Startups for 2023, uses blockchain technology to sell non-fungible token tickets. In April, the company partnered with Argentinian airline FlyBondi to sell NFT e-tickets that would allow passengers to transfer, sell or change the name on the tickets after the purchase.
